Sports Team Logos You Will Never See

 

The Washington Redskins NFL team is being challenged to change the team name. Not long ago the Washington NBA team changed its name from the Bullets to the Wizards. That seemed a reasonable thing to do, especially in light of the incredible acts of gun violence occurring in the capitol city itself and the nation in general.

The term “redskins” is a pejorative term used for centuries by whites to describe Native Americans. It should be easily understood why many people, Native American and otherwise, might find that name offensive.

Of course there is also the logo of the Cleveland Indians which could be construed as offensive. Supporters of these characterizations seem to be saying “I don’t find it offensive!”  Perhaps those who are offended should be considered instead. It seems what may appear to be innocuous by some may be highly insulting to others.
