Texas has a new voice on the national stage. Wendy Davis, D-Fort Worth, State Senate District 10, upset the applecart for the oligarchs in the state Republican party last night with her filibuster against the most restrictive proposed abortion laws in the nation. Her heroic efforts stalled the bill long enough in the ending special session to prevent it passing. Of course her brave stand isn't a final victory. It is likely Governor Rick Perry will call for another special session or, if not, the bill will be brought back in the next session. But, for the moment, Davis and opponents of the bill can celebrate a hard won victory.
