I called the White House the other day, on the 23rd. I asked to speak to the President. A nice lady told me he was not in and asked if I would leave a message.
I said to please ask the President to veto HJ Res 69 which was sent to his desk last Tuesday. This is the predator massacre bill which would allow shooting of bears, including cubs, on national wild life preserves in Alaska. The spotting of bears by helicopter would be legal.
It would allow the shooting of wolves in these places as well and even allows the killing of pups in their den.
This bill rushed through each house of congress, passing with a mostly party line vote.
I think it highly unlikely the President will veto this.
Possibly environmental and wild life organizations, such as Explore.org, The Sierra Club and others could mount a legal challenge and seek a stay immediately and to initiate law suits against this cruel, inhumane and illegal measure.
